When to Replace Your Bean Bag Cover (Not the Whole Chair)

Shara Bean Bag Cover in sage styled in a living room

A bean bag chair has two separate lifespans: the fill, and the cover. When people think their bean bag is "done," it's usually the cover that's actually worn out, faded, or stained, while the fill inside is still fine. That distinction matters, because replacing just the cover costs a fraction of a new chair.

Signs it's the cover, not the chair

  • Fading or staining on the fabric surface, with the chair still holding its shape and firmness when you sit in it
  • A worn or broken zipper on the outer cover, not the separate inner fill bag
  • Wanting a style refresh without replacing a chair that's otherwise still comfortable

Signs it's actually the fill

If the chair feels flat, thin, or like you're sitting on the floor through it no matter what cover is on it, that's the polystyrene fill breaking down, which a new cover won't fix.

How the swap works

The Shara Bean Bag Cover is built as a direct replacement for the Shara Rock Bean Bag Lounger, in the same OEKO-TEX-certified corduroy, with a full-perimeter zipper for an easy swap over your existing inner fill bag.

Worth checking before you replace the whole chair, especially if it's otherwise still holding up.
