OEKO-TEX shows up on a lot of product labels, ours included, without much explanation of what it's actually testing for. Short version: it's an independent lab test confirming a textile is free of harmful substances at levels that could affect health, not just a general "eco-friendly" label.
What gets tested
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 screens for regulated and non-regulated substances, including certain dyes, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and pesticide residue, across every component of the finished textile, not just the visible fabric layer. A product only carries the certification if every tested component passes, which is a meaningfully higher bar than "the fabric on top is fine."
Where it shows up in the Gouchee lineup
It's the corduroy family: the Shara Rock Bean Bag Lounger, the Shara Sitting Ball, and the Dotcom Inga Pouf are all built on an 85% polyester / 15% polyamide OEKO-TEX-certified corduroy blend.
Why it's worth checking for, not just on ours
If you're furniture shopping for a kid's room, a nursery, or just somewhere you or your family spend a lot of close-contact time, OEKO-TEX certification is one of the few label claims that's actually independently verified rather than self-reported by the manufacturer. Worth checking for on anything, not just what you buy from us.
